The Manifesto for our scheme hinges on three over laid thought streams; The Rational, the Educational and the Emotional.
The Rational: Lagos Island is over developed and lacks major social infrastructure. The provision of an Oasis as a balm to soothe the hectic and overcrowded Central Business District. To support Lagos ecosystem with oxygen and shade from a self-sustaining Eco-park.
The Educational: The Broad Street Prison site is a historical treasure on a similar level to Elmina Castle and should have been preserved for posterity; unfortunately after standing for over a hundred years, it was pulled down and allotted to developers who during the political turmoil’s of the 1970s, lost their investments. Too many of our Nation’s fathers served time and died for Nigeria as we hold it today, and the preservation of that memory as well as that of the innocent natives incarcerated there is what we seek.
The Emotional: Lagos is noteworthy for its Arts and Culture tradition, from the indigenous cultural festivals vis, Eyo, Egungun, Fanti etc, to the more contemporary- Music, Theatre and Film development, way back from the Agidigbo to Highlife, Juju, Afrobeat and AfroBeats and all in-between. The Park would celebrate and sustain this fledging industry by creating platforms for self and collective expression…and employment.
