Causes, effects, solutions
The Drainage Map Scheme was initiated by a select group of researchers in an attempt to find a solution to the persistence flooding problems around many parts of Lagos during the rainy season. The scheme plans to cover Lagos Island, with particular focus on Lekki, Victoria Island and Ikoyi, looking at:
- The history of urban planning, topography and development of greenfield areas & flood plains.
- Review of precedent information prepared by DFID or other bodies.
Physical and drone survey of all existing drains.
The study commences with a review of the existing drains, their hierarchy, gaps and bottlenecks. The production of a remedial plan of work, and sustainable solutions, presented as a phased masterplan and policy framework document, will be submitted to the Lagos State Government for review and implementation.
