You never change things by fighting against the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the old model obsolete.
R. Buckminster Fuller
Our studio is interested in the effect of unprecedented rates of urbanisation on the existing built environment of our cities. We believe that new demands arising from population growth, shift in the ways how communities and individuals use spaces, scarcity of the resources and effects of the tech-led, digital industry require architects to rethink how we approach the design and adaptability of buildings and urban infrastructure.
We think that role of the architect extends beyond just the design of the buildings.
That is why this year’s studio theme is Oblique Interventions. We believe that innovation always happens at the boundary of many industries. We will ask our apprentices to research and be familiar with the latest technological & business trends, advances in social science and behavioural studies and non-standard solutions for common problems found in fields other than architecture. As Albert Einstein put it ‘We cannot solve our problems with the same level of thinking that created them.’
